1             Mrs. Vickory had that look on her face again.  It was the same look she had when Timothy Rowens threw the eraser, and it hit Allie Jacobs on the head.  The whole class was quiet.  Everyone waited for what she had to say, even though we knew that what she would say wasn’t going to sound pretty.

“I leave for one day.  I come back, and there are twelve names on the list for kids who should be in detention.  She didn’t even write down names of kids who were good –“

“Mrs. Vickory, it really was all their fault.  I told them to stop, but no one would listen to me,” interrupted Penny Murphy.

“Yeah.  Whatever, Penny.  You know you were in on it too.  Stop pretending to be Miss Goody-goody-two-shoes!” Timothy Rowens yelled.

2             “You are a liar, Timothy Rowens!  I had nothing to do with it!” Penny screamed.  The whole class started talking all at once.  Mrs. Vickory had to blow her whistle to get everyone’s attention again.  Her face was bright, red now.  The class quieted.  We had never seen her this mad before.

“This is exactly what I mean!  From here on, no one will leave this room until I get a straight answer.  Don’t even think about going to use the restroom.  If I don’t hear anything from anyone by the time lunch comes, you will all be eating your lunches in here . . .”

My mind tuned her out.  I didn’t know what I was going to do as I really needed to use the bathroom.  I didn’t think I could hold it any longer, but Mrs. Vickory had made it clear that no one would leave the room until she could figure out who had started everything.
